The 2025 RS21 UK & Ireland Class Nationals was a thrilling and challenging regatta, held at Hayling Island Sailing Club from 27th–30th August. Despite tough weather conditions throughout the week, the event showcased high-level one-design racing, with sailors pushing their limits in a mix of heavy and moderate breeze.
Boats were welcomed on Wednesday at MDL Marinas’ Sparks Marina, where the fleet was hosted throughout the championship. |Seven races completed across dynamic and demanding conditions.
Conditions: Wind too strong for racing
Racing was cancelled due to high winds, with gusts well above safe limits. The race committee made an early call to prioritize sailor and equipment safety.
Conditions: Windy – 20 to 25 knots, races in the bay
The fleet returned to the water in challenging conditions. Four fast and tactical races were completed in the bay, with teams tested on boat handling and control in sustained breeze and choppy water.
Conditions: Light start (15 knots), building to 25 knots
To maximize the forecasted weather window, racing started early. Three more races were successfully completed in building breeze, starting in lighter winds and increasing to a solid 25 knots by the final race — making for a physical and thrilling conclusion.
Conditions: Wind too strong for racing
With another weather system bringing high winds, the final day of racing was abandoned, leaving the leaderboard unchanged from Day 3.

Despite being bookended by storms, the 2025 RS21 UK & Ireland Nationals delivered close, high-adrenaline racing in classic Hayling Bay conditions. The resilience and skill shown by all teams was a testament to the strength of the RS21 fleet. Congratulations to all competitors, and particularly our podium teams, for a memorable and hard-fought championship.
